WHAT TO DO IF YOU ENCOUNTER A DANGEROUS SHARK

Key Points

  • Avoid fishing boats

  • Swimming in the morning or night are the most dangerous times to swim

  • Sharks have extreme senses of smell, so don't pee, bleed, or excrete any other bodily fluids

  • If you see a shark, alert people nearby (especially authority figures) and get out of the water

  • Remain calm and do not splash around, as this will excite the shark

  • Maintain eye contact with the shark

  • If a shark is going to attack you, make yourself as big as possible

  • If a shark is not going to attack you, make yourself as small as possible by rolling into a ball

  • Do not play dead

  • Make sure the shark can not get in one of your blind spots

  • Slowly back away
