WHAT TO DO IF YOU ENCOUNTER A DANGEROUS SHARK
Key Points
-
Avoid fishing boats
-
Swimming in the morning or night are the most dangerous times to swim
-
Sharks have extreme senses of smell, so don't pee, bleed, or excrete any other bodily fluids
-
If you see a shark, alert people nearby (especially authority figures) and get out of the water
-
Remain calm and do not splash around, as this will excite the shark
-
Maintain eye contact with the shark
-
If a shark is going to attack you, make yourself as big as possible
-
If a shark is not going to attack you, make yourself as small as possible by rolling into a ball
-
Do not play dead
-
Make sure the shark can not get in one of your blind spots
-
Slowly back away
